ORLANDO REWIND βͺ
The Magic of Church Street Station: Orlando's Time Machine
In 1985, Lee Pharr, Church Street Station's art director, crafted a "nostalgic fantasy" in downtown Orlando. This entertainment complex, opened on July 19, 1974, transformed the city's nightlife with its 1880s-1920s themed venues.
Among its gems was Apple Annie's, a musical haven opened in July 1976. Here, bluegrass and folk melodies filled the air, courtesy of the house band Mother's Choice. The venue's Victorian garden interior boasted treasures from around the world: 18th-century Austrian mirrors, 1,000-pound chandeliers from a Buffalo church, and trusses from New Orleans' Annunciation Catholic Church.
Founder, Bob Snow's, commitment to authenticity was unparalleled. The front bar incorporated a French church's communion rail, while patrons lounged in wicker peacock chairs and repurposed pews. Surrounded by tropical plants, visitors experienced "gentility at its finest."
Church Street Station, with Apple Annie's as its crown jewel, created an immersive world bridging past and present. Though its specific charms may never be replicated, its legacy endures as a testament to the power of imagination and the timeless allure of nostalgic fantasy.

Inside Mayor Dyer's DTO Action Plan
Orlando's downtown is in for an exciting makeover, thanks to Mayor Buddy Dyer's ambitious vision.
Picture Magnolia Avenue transformed into a lively promenade, bustling with activity day and night. Orange Avenue and Lake Lucerne Park are getting fresh looks too, promising new spaces for work and play.
While some plans are still dreams in the making, "The Canopy" park under I-4 is set to break ground next year.
Music fans will be thrilled to hear about Live Nation's upcoming 3,500-seat venue in Westcourt, opening its doors in 2027.
Dyer knows it's a big task ahead, but he's optimistic about the brighter future it'll bring to Orlando's heart. His vision isn't just about buildingsβit's about creating a vibrant lifestyle in Orlando. Get ready for a fresher, greener, and more connected downtown!

After the Storm: Apopka's Unexpected Flood Fight
A week after Hurricane Milton, Apopka faced an unexpected challenge: rising floodwaters.
In Wekiva Village, neighbors have banded together, tracking the water's steady advance with homemade measurements. Despite the adversity, community spirit shines through. Local officials are working hard to find solutions, with Apopka's Mayor creatively diverting stormwater to treatment plants.
While the situation remains tense, residents are actively engaging with local government, voicing their concerns at city council meetings. As the community pulled together, there's hope that this ordeal will lead to lasting improvements in flood management, ensuring Apopka's resilience in future storms.
The town's response showcases both the challenges and the strength found in tight-knit communities during trying times.
