WEEKEND SPOT HIGHLIGHT 🔦
Rollins Museum of Art (Formerly, Cornell Fine Arts Museum)

Tucked away on the picturesque campus of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida lies a real gem - the Rollins Museum of Art. Though small in size, this museum houses a remarkably diverse collection of over 5,000 works of art spanning thousands of years of human creativity.

Founded in 1978, the museum bears the name of its principal benefactors, the Cornell family, who donated their impressive private art collection to Rollins College. This gift formed the core of the museum's holdings. Over the past four decades, the museum has continued to acquire significant pieces covering the breadth of art history.

As you explore the museum's intimate galleries, you'll discover treasures from ancient civilizations in the Mediterranean region alongside Renaissance and Baroque masterworks. Pieces like a 2,300-year-old Etruscan bronze helmet and a painting by Spanish Baroque master Bartolomé Esteban Murillo exemplify the scope of the collection.

Later artistic movements are also well-represented. The museum houses over 1,500 works on paper, including prints, photographs and drawings by acclaimed 19th and 20th century artists. Don't miss Andy Warhol's iconic screenprint of Mao Zedong or a cubist still life by Juan Gris.

Whether you have an afternoon or merely an hour, a visit to the Rollins Museum of Art is a rewarding glimpse into human creativity through the ages. This hidden gem is right in the backyard of Winter Park.
